Helpful Resources When You Need A Car Shipper

Auto Transport Resources

There’s a number of resources you can find online that can be very helpful when you’re considering an auto transport company. The car shipping industry can be tricky when you’re coming it at from the outside, especially since it’s not always clear which ones are operating as brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, which ones offer other services like home moving, and which ones just operate online to sell potential leads to other companies. Fortunately, there are a few places you can look to that will provide reliable information you can trust that will help guide your decision making process when choosing the right company to help move your car.

The U.S. Department of Transportation – More commonly referred to as the U.S. DOT in the world of car shipping, the U.S. Department of Transportation is the arm of the federal government that oversees all aspects of transport industry, from highway safety to construction of new projects, as well as implementation and regulation of new laws. If you have the need to contact any specific organization with general questions related to transport, this is a good place to start.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) – The FMCSA is an organization that falls under the purview of the Department of Transportation. The specific focus of the FMCSA is the transportation industry, and more directly the safety and regulation of large transport vehicles like trucks and buses. This is a valuable resource because you can use the FMCSA motor carrier database to look up information about any company that operates as a transporter in the U.S., including both auto transport and home moving companies. It’s also where you can find answers to many of the common questions consumers have about auto transport.

The Better Business Bureau – If you’re curious about consumer reviews and general overall quality of a business and how they operate, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) can be a helpful place to look before you decide on which company to use. You can easily find information such as how long they’ve been in business, and whether or not they’re an accredited business with the BBB. Each business on the BBB website is given an overall letter grade that denotes the level of service they provide and how happy their customers are with the service. You can also look at specific reviews by customers, both good and bad, to get a feel for the experience they provide when you do business with a specific auto shipper.

Other Review Sites – There are, of course, other review sites that are frequently used online and they can definitely provide value as well. Sites like Yelp! are a general review site that rates everything from where to get an oil change to where to find good pizza. The same can be said for websites like Angie’s List and other similar platforms, but these should generally be take with some level of healthy skepticism. Although websites like these (and their auto transport equivalent, Car Transport Reviews) do provide some value, they also offer businesses the opportunity to pay for advertising that can considerably increase the ratings and reviews of those companies that wish to participate.
